Are self-published books eligible for Kingsley or Kate Tufts Poetry Awards?

Yes. As long as your book was published between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022, you may submit it for the 2023 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award or the Kate Tufts Discovery Award.

Are e-books eligible for the Kingsley or Kate Tufts Poetry Awards?

No. We can only accept hard copies of printed, bound books for these awards.

I published two books of poetry between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022. May I submit both of these titles for consideration for the 2023 Tufts Awards?

Congratulations! If one of these titles is your first book of poetry, please submit that title for the 2023 Kate Tufts Discovery Award and the other title for the 2023 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. If neither of the books you published during the eligibility period is your first book, you may submit both for consideration for the 2023 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award.

I’ve published books in other genres, but this is my first published book of poetry. Should I submit to the Kate Tufts Discovery Award or the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award?

Submit to the Kate Tufts Discovery Award if this is your first full-length book of poetry. If you have a chapbook, this does not disqualify you from the award – you are still eligible.

How long should a book of poetry be / how many poems must be included for my work to be considered for the Tufts Poetry Awards?

Only full-length books are eligible for the Kingsley and Kate Tufts poetry awards; a full-length volume of poetry is generally understood to be 48 or more pages in length. Full-length poetry books are frequently 60-90 pages long.

Are there subject or style restrictions for the Kingsley & Kate Tufts Poetry Awards?

Poems in any style or about any subject are welcome.

May I submit my book to be considered for both the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Awards?

No. A single book may only be considered for one award or the other. If the title you’re submitting is your first book of poetry, submit it to the Kate Tufts Discovery Award. If you’ve previously published one or more full-length collections of poetry, please submit your book for the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award.

My book is a translation of another poet’s work – can I submit it for the Tufts awards?

No. Translations are not eligible for the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award or the Kate Tufts Discovery Award.

My book has multiple authors, or I collaborated with another poet to write it. Are books with more than one author eligible for the Tufts Poetry Awards?

No. Books must be written by a single author only.

When will the winners of the 2023 Kingsley & Kate Tufts Poetry Awards be announced?
